has AR ever canonically stated what happens if a vampire eats/tries to eat food? I know they can't (or don't) but I can't remember if she ever said anything specifically regarding food, and I thought I'd ask you since you're kind of an awesome vc expert haha xD

I don’t think that AR has ever canonically stated what happens if a vampire eats/tries to eat food… I’m not even sure if it’s canon of fanon at this point but I headcanon that they can swallow little sips of liquids other than blood. But not much.

^This is from What We Do in the Shadows, and it’s probably not projectile vomiting like this for Ricean vampires… but it’s hilarious (but GROSS) so WATCH IT (if you can handle the gross). For these and the Ricean vampires, eating people food is bad, but not lethal. 

Ricean vampires lose alot of digestive anatomy when they’re turned. So their bodies just can’t metabolize food. Cooking smells are repulsive to them, as Louis describes it in IWTV:

“The slightly nauseating smell of cooking meat… I caught the sweet smell of the spices and the fresh green of marjoram and bay; and then in a wave came the horrid smell of the cooking meat, the blood and flesh decaying in the boiling fluids.“

So if they were to try a bite of a plate of food, it might be like trying to force yourself to eat something inedible, like an old soapy sponge. Unless you’re really determined to eat a thing, you’ll want to spit it out.

I would guess that eating a whole plateful of food would just make them throw it back up, no enjoyment in or out :-P

Not sure about other vampires, like The Vampire Diaries, Tru Blood, 30 Days of Night, Daybreakers, etc.

I seem to recall the Lost Boys vampires were able to eat Chinese food? I don’t remember.

One thing that I wish they did in the movie of IWTV was to provide more info on Louis' wife. The way Louis grieved over her and his child's death makes you think he really must have loved her and was looking forward to being a father. Imagining Louis preparing for his child with his wife makes me happy but then imagining him devastated when they died makes me sad. Poor Louis.

Yes, exactly ;A; I headcanon that Louis had this statue made in her likeness, I would think he was wealthy enough to do that, buuuuut it might also just be a generic angel statue…

Pretty sure the portrait Louis burns when burning down Pointe du Lac is of his wife, sort of like, a “Darling, I can’t live without you any longer, I’m on my way, I’ll see you soon…” gesture ;A;

I think they just didn’t have enough time to give us more, the movie is 2 hours long, and in 1994, I seem to remember movies being more in the 1.5 hour range. 

But in the script, we get her name, age (28), and the name of the child, at least:

“Burnadette”? Thank you! It’s not my ACTUAL name, but it’s the name I prefer for my fandom life… I was brought up in a time when the internet was new, and we were taught not to reveal much about yourself for safety concerns, and I still feel that way. 

“Burnadette” is based on the song “Bernadette” by the Four Tops. I changed the spelling to include the word “Burn,” which is a Louis reference, his pyromania, back when I chose the name I was still making fun of him for that. This many years later, I don’t do that as much anymore, you might say I burned out on that. pfffft.

It’s a very upbeat song, but if you listen to the lyrics closely the singer is basically a guy who has to have ALL OF this poor lady bc apparently she’s already so much a part of him that he needs her more than just out of love, and smacks down the competition as unworthy. It’s pretty obsessive.

My parents and I loved Motown when I was younger, we’d often sing along to this song in the car, so it has a nostalgic feel for me. At that time, I just thought it was a guy who couldn’t help but express himself as to how madly in love he was. Obsession and madly in love, unhealthy relationships… very VC.

I think ppl forget that Louis is just as passionate and vengeful as Lestat, it’s just that he isn’t as vocal or showy about it. He’s more intimate and intense. Anyway, great Louis discourse, nice to see ppl with similar thoughts!

IKR? It took planning to kill a theatre full of older vampires who had honed their vampiry gifts. Louis does get pushed around, but he learns from it, and he comes back with a strategy. Lestat’s more of an impulse fighter. 

And yes, Louis kills indiscriminately, which is scarier bc there’s nothing you can do to avoid it other than to not cross his path. At least you know you’re safe form Marius or Lestat as long as you’re not a certifiable Evildoer™ ;D

How do I introduce The Vampire Chronicles to someone? (And how to I do that to someone whose not reading vampire literature because of Twilight. I’m trying to have more than one fledgling.)

That’s great that you want to bring someone(s) into this with you! We can always use fresh blood ;D

TBH, tho, it’s not for everyone. Ppl who deliberately don’t read vampire lit bc of Twilight are not totally wrong. They might have valid personal reasons, maybe they don’t like blood/gore, maybe they don’t like the idea of biting or being bitten as erotic IRL, there are plenty of reasons before we even get anywhere NEAR the Problematic things that generally come up with vampire lit. 

Don’t be disappoint if they won’t turn, the Dark Trick is not an exact science, and don’t look at it as a failure on your part.

I’ve been where you are many times, Anon, and in fact I lent the IWTV DVD to a mortal VERY recently, and he keeps RESISTING WATCHING IT but apparently he will TONIGHT “It’s gonna be an Interview with the Vampire night!” he said, without a trace of trepidation, but WE’LL SEE, WON’T WE, MR. EXCESSIVELY TALL PERSON!?

I think the best you can do to try to make new VC fledglings is to ask them to watch IWTV bc as far as adaptations go, yes it changes some things but it was intended to appeal to a wider audience than just the existing fans, and I think it was successful in that regard. 

If you want your friend to read the books instead, give them the capsule reviews, which set this series so far from the other vampire lit. @high-fructose-lesbianism‘s capsule VC reviews are pretty gr9 [X]:

what are birb aliens?

Again, not to go into very much detail bc I don’t know much detail, from what I gather: 

The aliens are birdlike and are basically part of the origin story of the vampires, it goes back to the Lost City of Atlantis (actually “Atalantaya”) 

And the bird aliens’ plan is to derive energy from humans on earth using the aliens’ own creatures, the Replimoids, 

and idk, it’s very involved. 

Like all great utopias, Atalantaya couldn’t last forever and was destroyed, 

and in the act of destruction the Replimoids were scattered 

and some of them died and their souls roamed the earth, 

eventually, one of the souls was able to possess a human body (Akasha) in a supernatural accident that creATED THE VAMPIRES. 

Every new vampire then got a piece of this alien’s soul. 

So the vampires are/were in fact humans possessed/enhanced by their share of that one (sometimes dormant, sometimes cognizant and vocal) alien soul. 

I’LL GIVE HER CREDIT IN THAT IT’S DEFINITELY ANOTHER FRESH TAKE ON VAMPIRE MYTHOLOGY.

Lestat's birthday, the right date is 1758 or 1760?

I think his birth year is 1760 or ‘61. 

Lestat turns Louis in 1791. At that time, Lestat’s been a vampire for 10 years, and he was turned when he was 20 or 21 (it’s UNCLEAR, there’s a debate about this)(even AR doesn’t remember). 

So Lestat is 30 or 31 in 1791, which would make his birth year 1760 or ‘61 ;D

I got a similar ask a few months back, it’s got a little more thought on the subject. There’s a timeline in the official Vampire Companion (there is some debate about discrepancies of this book to canon, but this book was intended to be the author’s deciding word on canon facts):

good evening, i have some kind of headcanon ask for you! so, Armand became a vampire as teenager, and probably looks very young (due to vampire beauty, or something... i remember he was described like this, but maybe it was translation). do you think that he was even stopped by the police and asked why is he alone so late in the night, warning him of the dangers and proposing to give him a ride home? sorry, i don't know if it happens in USA, but it happened to me and my friends quite some times.

That’s good that the police are concerned for your safety and have offered to give you & your crew a safe ride home! Yes, I would think that Armand does get this kind of interaction, more because if the fact that he was under 21 when he was turned and not so much bc of the vampire beauty (from TVA):

Even if he looked “strong,” I’m an adult and it would concern me to see a 17 year old out in a bar late at night, too! I wouldn’t approach him myself, but I might worry that he’s in danger and alert a staff member. From my experience in many states in the US, it is a liability for a bar or club to have underage people even in their building, so most don’t even allow underage people in at all. 

Armand probably has a big deck of fake ID’s that say he’s 21, though, and some people really do look younger than they are… combine that with his Mind Whammy abilities, so I’m sure he gets in wherever he wants.

Yep, Ricean vampires can only drink blood :P In some fanfic, they can take little sips of other liquid, but IIRC, they can only consume blood in canon.

Our body’s way of defending itself from inedible things is to make them taste bad (but then there are people with Pica, who eat inedible things and then there’s the fact that some edible things that are good for you might not be very tasty unless prepared somehow so… idk).

Reputable? Well, I think repute is in the eye of the beholder, y’know? I try not to play favorites, but I have promo’d RPers here and there. My Lestat and Louis muses are ask-only, so you can ask them things but they can’t go on to do full threads, the mun doesn’t have the time for that :-P
